[00:00:00] What is ADA compliance for cannabis websites? The ADA American with Disabilities act has made it quite clear that all websites should be accessible by anyone with a disability. [00:00:11] This means that just building a website isn't good enough. [00:00:15] ADA compliance for cannabis sites should include an audio option as well as the option for people with visual impairments to better read your site. [00:00:24] Doing this can save your small business tens of thousands of dollars in lawsuits for discrimination. [00:00:32] Can you be sued for not being ADA compliant? [00:00:37] While this may sound like a fear mongering marketing tactic to upsell a service, the simple answer is yes. [00:00:43] The first big ADA lawsuit was in 2019 when Beyonce got sued because her website was not compliant. [00:00:50] Since then, there have been thousands of federal website accessibility lawsuits, with a 12% bump in 2020. [00:00:57] The stats have increased in 2020, according to Wall Street Journal. In 2021, companies with revenue below $50 million were the targets of 2/3 of lawsuits between January one in June 21, a shift from the year earlier period when the share was less than half, Usablenet said. [00:01:17] E commerce companies are sued most often, accounting for 74% of federal cases between January1 and June 21, the report said. [00:01:27] Rounding out the top five categories were digital media and agencies, finance, food, service and healthcare, each accounting for less than 5% of the total. [00:01:38] How hard is it to make your site ADA compliant? [00:01:42] Since there is a lot of ambiguity around what constitutes a violation, it it is easier to show that you are working on making your site more compliant. [00:01:50] Simply showing that you are attempting to make your site compliant helps.
